Rebecca answers more random questions!

Hello again ladies and gentlemen, some of you have been here before, so welcome back to my brain!!  On with the questions then...

1.   What activity do you do that makes you feel most like yourself? - Well, when my floor is messy and there's paint on my hands and sleeves and jeans, I usually feel great.  If I lie down on the floor and stare at the ceiling I find myself and when I'm swimming I feel alive.  Strictly that's three and I still didn't answer the question, hehe.

2.   What's something you never leave home without? - Uhm, clothes, shoes, in Scotland: an umbrella, in Australia: suncream (sun screen for Aussies.)

3.   What's your actual superpower? - I can tolerate a lot, I'm quite observant, I'm more or less clever...

4.   What are you terrible at but love to do anyway? - Singing or dancing, doesn't matter if you aren't good, as long as you're having fun.  Being able to laugh at yourself is an added bonus!

5.   What weapon would you carry during a Zombie Apocalypse? - I made a Pinterest board for that very event, check it out here! (Also, I find that A word to be impossible to type correctly.)

6.   What do you cook better than anyone? - Not better than anyone but I'm quite good at Steak, curry and Bacon Sandwiches.

7.   If you had to be trapped in a TV show for a month, which one would you choose? - That's easy BBC's Sherlock.  Although, nothing would be happening because it's on hiatus, as the americans would say.  So, Doctor Who as well.

8.   What's a secret you have? - It wouldn't be a secret anymore if I told you lot.

9.   Have you ever danced in the rain? - Yeah, I have actually.

10. What was the weirdest prank call you have ever made? - We phoned someone's mum when I was about fourteen and asked her if she wanted some magic beans, to this day it was the weirdest.

11. If you could wake up tomorrow in a body of somebody else (just for this day).  Who would you pick and what would you do? - I would pick Benedict Cumberbatch, because I would get to meet him, more or less, I would become a boy, which is fascinating and he's filming at the moment, so that would be fun to be involved with.  I might even drive out to meet myself, because he would become me, right?!

12. How do you start a conversation? - Why?  Can't you?  Uhm, I tend to say hello and say I'm British and lost at the moment, can you help me?  Or I ask them about what makes them happy.

13. What cheers you up? - Oh too many things from messages from my friends and family, to cuddles with dogs and chocolate, hot chocolate, tea... I'm quite a cheerful person anyway, sometimes I just need to laugh a little and everything is better.

14. What is your favourite breakfast food? - Bagels, toast, some cereals but I need variety.

15. What's the strangest thing you've ever eaten? - Probably snake or shark, tasted odd.  That or Venison.

There we go people and I didn't swear this time!  Wahoo!!!

fifteen more questions

Hello,

I'm getting my working and this allows me to answer honestly, and try to be a little comical too, so here we go!

1.   What do you do when you see a spider? - I genuinely get a glass and cover it over, if I'm feeling brave I'll slip a card under the cup and take it outside, or I'll leave the cup there until someone can come and deal with it for me!
2.   Do you have stuffed animals? - There are three black bin bags full of them in my parents loft, I have one here with me in Australia, Bramble Brown, he's been with me since I was 7 months old.
3.   Have you ever had a costume party? - No, but I've been to many.  Last one I went as the Joker, it was creepy.
4.   What makes your heart melt? - Boxer dogs, my niece Isabella and my nephew Thomas and the fact I won't be able to hug Thomas until he's almost one years old.
5.   Three good things in your country and three bad things - Well I'm from the UK. (I live in a small town in Scotland and went to University in England)  So three good things, Doctor Who, Sherlock, Harry Potter and James Bond were all filmed in my country; we have, as a nation invented a lot of the things most people use daily, including computers, telephones and the internet and London is our capital city.  Three bad things, it rains on average 250 days of the year; the south-east is over crowded and we aren't as Great as we used to be.
6.   If your country belongs to the EU/NATO, what is your opinion about that? - The United Kingdom is a member (more or less) of both of those clubs.  North Atlantic Treaty Organisation was set up on the 4th April 1949 (I'm a history buff) to try and prevent the sort of power grab and vacuum that occurred in Germany in the 1930s with Adolf Hitler.  It is a military alliance which is still important to the world, as we saw with World War One and Two, we need these sorts of treaties to allow us to have support should this sort of war happen again.  As for the EU, we are a member, but not.  We don't have the Euro so we are in the second tier of the union.  I think it's okay, the only downside is now we don't get stamps in our passports when we travel within the EU!
7.   One thing which is why your partner would rather live in your country? - I don't have a partner, unless you mean on here, for this then I think you should move to the UK because we have amazing food!
8.   If you had to move to another country, what would it be and why? - That's an easy one because I moved to Australia in September!  Why, because it's cold in the UK and I fancied a warmer climate, however briefly.
9.   Have you ever had to go to the doctors in a foreign country? - Nope, I'm usually well.
10. What foreign language would you like to know how to speak? - I would love to be able to speak French, I want to live in Paris, however briefly.
11. Name two foreign languages that sound hard to speak or funny? - Chinese (Mandarin) is hard and Japanese sounds fun.
12. What tv series do you follow at the moment? - BBC Sherlock, Doctor Who, that's about it, apart from old comedy series'
13. What is the latest good song you have found? - Ed Sheeran or Taylor Swift are the ones I sing the most on the radio.
14. Have you ever had a general anesthetic? - Nope, like I said, I'm generally well.
15. What sport is the most interesting to watch and what is not? - I love football (soccer), rugby (league) and Formula One and I hate watching Skiing, Tennis, Golf and Cricket!

It's not unusual to be loved by anyone...

That's the song that's stuck in my head and has prevented me from sleeping for the last two hours.  Today was an amazing day, truly unique and exhausting.  I'm a proud auntie, again... Which is fabulous. What a boy!!  I cannot wait till I meet him, next year.  That's awful really.  A year till we meet...

In other news... Dead chicken found in the coop, naturally I freaked out and tried to shake the bench it was sitting on no reaction, so I went to get a carrier bag to dispose of it because I'm that sort of chick... Awful pun!  And low and behold, as soon as I pick it up its breathing again.

Perhaps I'm a miracle worker, maybe that chicken just has a giant egg up its bum, who knows...

I'm going to attempt to blog everyday, it will be tosh, but at least it will be refreshed daily tosh!

Over and out!

A small feeling.

I believe it's moments like this, how I'm feeling in this exact moment which will make or break me.  I'm not missing home, Gretna is a dull place with many lovely people residing within it, my family live there and some of my friends too.  I've grown there, worked there, played there and left there but in this instant, I wish I was there.  Not because I miss it, but because it's convenient.  Either today or tomorrow, some day soon, my best friend will give birth and I am 9000 miles away, the first time I see this child in real life is realistically this time next year, which sucks.  I knew about the birth of her first child within four hours and met her within seven days... There was space to breath, but a year is something else.  I moved to Perth, to Lower Chittering on the back of some difficult decisions because I thought fuck it, it's my life, I want to live it.  I had no ties and no worries but now I'm realising something that shouldn't really come as a shock, life goes on.  I'm merely a player and the other players move on, they love, they cry, they live and they die and I'm silly to think that things would pause that life wouldn't change but it does.  And now with a tear in my eye and a glass in my hand I toast the players, the best friend, the mother, the babe in arms, the stranger and the lover... The world keeps on spinning and I'm a sentimental old fart at times.

I guess this is my way of contributing a verse.

In which I answer fifteen random questions...

Hello hello,

1.  The last picture I took on my phone was of a Rock Melon (Cantaloupe) and the image is attached.

2. Well, I learned very early on that if I wanted a day of watching documentaries, films and generally having a great day, wait until my dad was looking after us and then pull a sickie.  He just let me stay off, it was brilliant in secondary school.  I also would say I felt sick in college and they would say, yeah you do look a little unwell, and I'm like hey, I'm fine.  That's not fair!

3.  That if I did a comedy show one of my favourite comedians would come and probably laugh!  I love making people laugh.

4.  I love this pizza that Dominos used to do, it have red onions, chicken, BBQ sauce, mustard and honey mustard on it, with bacon and it was just amazing, with crispy onions on top too!

5.  I would have loved to have seen the Millennium in somewhere fantastic, but I was only 10 years old then, actually I was 9, haha!

6.  How do you spell your surname?  How do you pronounce it?  It's everyday!

7.  Q Z X are the only ones that haven't got rubbing marks on them!

8.  I used to LOSE my bank cards, I think I've had about thirty for one of my bank accounts and I lost my driving license too, then I found it!  Yay!

9.  Plinth, Moist, Awkward, clutch, lunge.  They're fun to say.

10.  I don't really want to be haunted by anyone, but if Justin Bieber was dead, I wouldn't want it to be him.  I would want Robin Williams so he could make funny commentary throughout my day.

11.  Adolf Hitler and Did you actually think it would work?

12.  O+ (Universal donor, my blood can be given to anyone, in plasma form.)

13.  Peaches, the actor James Nesbitt, Clowns, Spiders, Snakes and Scorpions

14.  Yes, it's not fun... you have to clean for hours.

15.  It's not a superpower, I would like to have a TARDIS, it would be fun to travel in space and time to just see what's out there.  Yes, I'm a geek!  And I'm extremely content!

That's it then, 15 answer to fifteen random questions.

Second post of the day... fuck!

Hello again, I'm here to vent to no-one in particular.  I've just eaten a Thai Green Curry, fuck that was hot.  Three glasses of wine and I'm feeling merry.  I'm here to talk about frustration.  It's amazing how that fucking emotion can sneak up on you, you don't even notice it then kablamo.  FRUSTRATION!!  Oh, I need some angsty music for this post.

Ah, wtf happened to iTunes, it's red now?

Anyway, I was supposed to be on a date tonight, that's right when Rebecca moves across the world her fucking shitty love life follows her.  A year for myself and I fall into the male trap.  Yay me!!   So, I was supposed to be on a date tonight and I'm frustrated one because the guy cancelled but two, because I was about to cancel on him too.  I'm so fucking terrified of new things, which is paradox because everything I experience over here is fucking new.  Ahh, I love the f word, it's my friend.  Hmm, this is probably going to be more interesting than I first expected.  Tomorrow I'm going to the beach, even if it's blowing a gale and pissing down.  Another friend, hehe!  So, this is a ranty, sweary post that I haven't really thought about.  I'm just pretending this is my 10 year old self's diary. "My mum won't let me buy new colouring pencils for school, I hate her soooooooo much" styley!

So tomorrow, beach... whatever the weather, to clear my head.  I love that I can talk to no one here!

Australian Things

Okay, so I've been living in Australia, with an Australian family for 5 weeks now and I have met some locals, some other Au Pairs and some weirdos in my time here so far.  But what have I learned about Australia?

1. Australian's worship this god like substance which looks and tastes like Marmite, but is in fact completely different as it has Vitamin B and vitality!  Australia was built from this stuff, like roads and bridges as well as people!  Vegemite is vile and the only time I've used it was to make gravy, it was good for that.

2. Australian's don't like shoes, their feet from a young age are hardened into what can be described as hide like material, it's like they could all perform the walking on glass trick, no questions asked and certainly no cuts.

3. They have Mexican Drive Thru!  Zambrero in Joondalup is amazing, I love their chikito's!

4. Aussies drive on the left but in cars that have been developed for driving on the right.  Meaning their steering wheels are back to front, many a time I've gone to indicate where I'm driving next and through on my window wipers instead.

5.  Your first Kangaroo will probably be spotted 'sleeping' at the side of the road!  Road kill!

6.  You will probably need to pay to see your first kangaroo up close.

7.  Aussie's have play parks with built in BBQ grills, so a picnic in the park can be burgers and hot dogs with the minimal of fuss!

8.  Everything is in Kilometres, which is confusing.  Especially when you cannot remember how to convert it to miles.

9.  You will get burnt, at least once in your first few weeks because the sun is so strong!  And I'm ginger, my skin is so pale!!

10. And so far, I have learned that if you're going to have a car crash, it's better to do it in the middle of nowhere, crashing into the local primary schools fence is better than totalling your host mums car or putting diesel into a petrol car!

The first ten things I have learned about Australia and Perth in general.  All these things have been done by me, some good, others bad!

15 October 2014

This pitiful display...

Okay, I made a blog, a blog like the rest of the internet.  I set it up, I made it pretty then I fucked off and left it to die off in the internet wasteland, only to be found by googlers and weird people who click the next blog button.  (Who actually uses that?  Oh wait, that's me.)

Anyway, back to the matter at hand.  On the 10th September 2014, I left a foggy and damp Southern Scottish address to make a 9112 mile journey to the other side of our large planet.  I jumped into the car with my mum, dad and my not-so-little sister as they drove me 55 miles to Newcastle Airport.  I then boarded, some four hours later, I got there quite early, a massive plane.  The biggest I've ever been on, apart from the time we were given a Boeing-777 to fly to Alicante, which was weird.  It was an Emirates flight and everything was lovely from the complimentary hot towel, to the complimentary penguin biscuits, to the complimentary single malt whisky.  Needless to say, everything was complimentary.  I arrived into the desert, also known as Dubai, at midnight on the 11th September 2014.  It was about a million degrees and I had to thank my little brain for not agreeing to a year in a desert.

Three hours in Dubai International Airport was interesting to say the least, I traded some old US dollars for Dubai's lovely currency the dirham.  I say it's lovely, that's because it has coffee pot like objects on the coins and is wonderfully unique.  I ventured into Starbucks after finding myself with dirham and ordered a large cup of tea.  Grabbed some sugar packets - it had been a long afternoon and headed off to find my gate and a seat, which I managed with some success.  Opened the lid of my tea to reveal, dun dun dunnn... foamy hot milk on Earl Grey Tea.  I'm not in Kansas anymore.  My world is broader and stranger for this experience already.  I drank my entirely wrong cup of tea while reading Last Bus to Woodstock by Colin Dexter, listening to two German backpackers being weird and a cute old couple telling an Australian gent about their English grandchildren.  Dubai airport was wholly a success and I boarded the second flight a 2.10am and we set off on the second leg of my mammoth journey at 3am.

The food on the plane was odd, I must admit.  Beef stew at 3.45am was bizarre to say the least, but it wasn't as bad as my error when eating an entire lox of salmon on an empty stomach almost led me into the bathroom to vomit.  I survived that, thank Einstein.  So, both flights went without a hitch and I arrived into Perth, WA at 5.30 on the 11th September 2014.  A synonymous with so many horrid things, became a day I will always remember.  It was the day my life changed, it was flipped upside down, thanks to the southern hemisphere and I will hopefully be a better person from it.

But, this is already too long, so for now... from the lovely view across the property I will disappear, I have some Jimmy Carr to watch.
